Chronicles

Teaching and learning is a life long experience
Teaching abroad was a great experience for me. I had chance to meet with different kids in different countries from primary to high schools. I had chance to observe music, drama, art, spanish and language classes.

        USA Florida Chronicles

                                                        1)  Pasco County Primary
This was a language class in a primary school in Pasco. It was a vivid classroom. Everywhere was full of language stuff. Teacher used every empty place on the walls with the students' creative works. They could see every new vocabulary, every work that they'd done and every picture related to the subjects. Whatever they did was hung on the walls right at that moment. Students felt precious so they were more eager to create and join the activities. They were so cute. Congratulations.

                                                          2) Public Library of Pasco
Those three pictures are form Pasco County Library. We visited that library and we met with some of the kids there. They went there with their families. They had chance to read book, do some different activities and make research for their homework. It was a fun day. I had chance to plant some flowers with the primary school kids. Kids loved to spend time in that library because they had great fun. I believe they still go to that local library:)

                                                  3)   Richey Suncoast Theatre
This was Richey Suncoast Theatre in Pasco County Florida. High school kids from different schools performed on the stage and we had change to watch their great performance. Their drama teacher gathered all of them from different high schools. They had musical performance, drama and dance performance on the stage. This was really a great motivation for all of them.

                                                 4) Hernando/Citrus Counties
The pictures below were from Spanish classes of different grades. One of those schools was in Hernando and the other was in Citrus county. They were learning Spanish as a second language and I had chance to observe how they taught second language in different grades. Teaching through living was the most important point of language teaching. No matter what the age group is the best way to teach a second language is to let them live it, experience it in all the ways. Repetition is the other key word for second language teaching. On the left the primary kids were learning "food" subject. Their teacher created a picnic atmosphere with toys and with real fruits and vegetables. Kids had chance to repeat the Spanish words while they were having so called "picnic" :) On the right those students were learning Spanish song. Their teacher took them out in the garden. She let them have a chance to act out the song by creating a suitable atmosphere with the real clothes and musical traditional Spanish instruments. All of them enjoyed a lot.

                                            5)  Chocachatti Elementary School
We visited "Chocachatti Elementary School" in Hernando County Florida. We had chance to practice steel drums with the help of music teachers. It was a great and a very different experience. One of the Local papers "Hernando Times" made news about us. I could clearly see that the students were content about playing that instrument. The teachers were  positive and helpful to the kids. It was great. The best way to teach something is to let your students live it and enjoy it then success comes itself...

                               6)   Pinealles County Nursery School
This was a kindergarten school in Pinealles county Florida. It was awesome because all the toys and the environment of the school were made of wood. Everything was natural in the school. The kids were also doing gardening such as planting, shoveling, watering. There was a small kitchen in the classes so the students were getting used to doing their own duties such as washing hands, washing plates or toys. I observed that kids were so happy in the school. They were both learning about their responsibilities and learning about life at same time.  I wish many schools would be like this one all around the world.

England Chronicles:
7) Bearwood Collage
I attended a summer school with my students in England. The summer school was in Wokhingam; Bearwood College. It is 300 years old and It was once a sailor-man school. It is placed in the middle of the wood with a lake and a stable in the backyard. It was so ancient and old inside and outside. It was so Gothic as well.:) There were students from all over the world. We took our students to this summer school as well. They had language lessons in the morning with the school's teachers and in the afternoon they had tournaments among themselves. In the evenings there were gatherings or facilities to help students engage more. We went to school trips to London, Reading, Oxford, and Brighton. If you have any chance to visit Wokhingam you can also visit Bearwood.

         7) Windsor
It was one of the places I visited with my students. We visited the New Windsor College which was operated by Catholics. Many important people had their education in this building. It was once very popular and very strict. There is a Catholic chapel inside the school garden. It is still so ancient and gorgeous.

8) Oxford
The best place I visited in England was definately Oxford. It is so small and cozy. The main street and the centre are so small but so cute as well. We visited Oxford Harry Potter's school. We visited the lunch hall of the school and we enjoyed the paintings on the walls and on the windows. It is an very ancient school as well like all the other schools around England.

 Turkey
9) Istanbul Modern Museum
I went to Istanbul Modern Museum with my friend.
t was the day when They prepared workshop for kids because it was Turkey's national Children's Day.  Kids were drawing and coloring pictures and they hung them on a huge rainbow which was outside on the walls of the museum. It really looked gorgeous and kids enjoyed to take pictures under the rainbow and they tried to find their works on the rainbow colors:) It was creative and fun. My friend also took my picture with an umbrella under the rainbow:)

Canada / Montreal
10) McGill University of Montreal 2019
It was 2016. I went to Canada Montreal for vacation and I visited McGill University Science and Art Faculty. My initial purpose was to observe the Literature Classes as a quest teacher and I talked to the head teacher but I couldn't have that chance sine it was summer time and there were no classes that I could observe and all the teachers were on a summer vacation but she directed me to the continuing studies department of the University. It was a school for international students who want to learn English as a second language. I did what she said and found the head of the language department and told him about my intentions. He accepted me and showed me a great deal of hospitality and arranged my week to give me the opportunity to visit different leveled language classes. I attended classes and observed different levels from beginners to intermediates. It was great opportunity for me and I am really grateful for Mr. Callaghan to give that opportunity. here are some moment from the lessons.

11) SAN DIEGO
Honeywell Greenboot Camp 2017
Honeywell Greenboot Camp (HONGBC) was a project camp designed for middle school Science, Math and
English teachers and took place in San Diego in 2017. The aim of the project camp was to take a step inside     the classrooms of a greener future. HONGBC inspired teachers to turn their classrooms into fertile ground in     which ideas about sustainability could thrive. I feel so lucky that I was a part of such an amazing program. We, as teachers, were divided into teams in which we came up with creative and productive projects that we could use in our classrooms. We were also given science project challenges and competed as teams. I was so inspired and I used many things that I experienced in my own lesson plans. I tried to inspire my students in the light of sustainability. HONGBC has helped me to have an awareness about environmental way of thinking. Now I help my own students to gain more environmental awareness throughout my English lessons.

12) Istanbul 2016
Language Partners

Language Partners was a project which I carried out in middle School. Students in pairs became partners as teachers. The aim of the project was to teach 2nd grade students in a state school. The students of the project prepared their own lesson plans and materials accordingly. They taught different topics in different classes and the topics were related with the Ministry of Education’s course books. It was really a fun and an emotional experience. They completed 3 wees in this project successfully. Here are some pictures.

13) ELT Day (English Language Day) 2010
ELT day was a project day based on recycling and sustainability. It was a one-day event but  the preparation took like a half semester. Both teachers and students were supposed to collect any kind of recyclable materials throughout the term. We; as teachers; integrated recycling based on activities into our lesson plans and used those collected materials in our lessons to create different kinds of projects. The aim of this project day was to create an environmental awareness and help sustainable way of thinking within the school thrive easily.  On the actual project day all the recycling projects were collected and displayed in the garden according to the theme. There were different themes like; extinct animals, travelling through the world, marine life or farm life and etc. here are some example below.

Bullettin boards

Learning with bulletin boards               The best and the fun way of being an English teacher is preparing bulletin boards for students. It is an essential part of  language learning. Kids like to look at the boards while they are spending time in the corridors. You can arrange your boards according to your students in-class works or projects. You can pin or stick their works on your bulletin boards so that students have chance to see what they've already created. This will help to attract their attention also It will help your students emotionally attach to you as well. Here are some ideas for you..                                                             1) Let's Go to the Party! This "Party   Train" bulletin board is made of students' birthday party invitation cards. Ss write invitation to their friends for their birthday party. Teacher first gives templates to the students and they

Where to learn

It is important to create right circumstances for the kids to teach a language. When they enjoy it they learn it. It is important to let them touch, experience, feel, and enjoy. You can decorate your classrooms, your corridors, your basic fun places, and your gardens as well. So here some ideas for you on how to make your school more available for the language learning. Here we go:) This is one of the English zones in our school. Kids know they will enjoy a lot when they enter in the mysterious world of English. This is not teacher-made decoration yet we can adjust it.                School is where you spend most of your time. It is like your second home both for you and for your students, so why don't you make it as comfortable as your home so that you and everybody enjoy spending time in it. This is our school garden. Thanks to our art teacher it is now colorful and fun for spending time with the students.                 This is a
